Crouch End wheelchair mum paid just £50 by bus driver who ran her over on a zebra crossing

Ham & High report

Wheelchair-bound Crouch End mum Rebecca Bruce remains scared to leave the house as the bus driver who ran her over at a zebra crossing was ordered to pay his victim just £50.

Mrs Bruce was hit by the double-decker 41 bus being driven by Paulo Ferriera on March 21. She was on the zebra crossing in Hazelville Road’s junction with Hornsey Road in Horney Rise.

He was turning right from Hornsey Road, but failed to spot Mrs Bruce, who was dragged along the road for four seconds.

45-year-old Ferriera, of Holden Close, Hertford, admitted driving without due care and attention at Stratford Magistrates’ Court. He was banned from driving for six months.

“He should have been given a permanent ban,” said Mrs Bruce. “He shouldn’t be allowed back on the roads.”
