Santander announced today that they’re closing their branch in Crouch End.
It turns out to be one of 140 UK closures by the bank, although nearby branches in Muswell Hill and Wood Green appear to have survived the cull. Santander say their customers can also “bank at Post Office branches”. Thanks for that.
In a press release, the bank’s head of retail banking says, “The way our customers are choosing to bank with us has changed dramatically in recent years, with more and more customers using online and mobile channels. As a result, we have had to take some very difficult decisions over our less visited branches.”
One Crouchender told us, “I once queued up for 15 minutes at this branch to order a new chequebook. When I finally got to the counter I was told to ‘go and use the phone on the wall and ring up our telephone banking service.’ Happy days.”
