Ham & High reports…
Much of child sexual exploitation in the borough is connected to girls becoming involved in #gangs, according to the newly released Haringey Safeguarding Children Board annual report.
There are currently 36 young women at risk of child sexual exploitation, with at least one child regularly at risk, according to board chairman Paul Ennals, who outlined the report at a Haringey Council meeting tonight.
There are 11 active gangs in Haringey, with an estimated 116 gang members, according to the 2014/2015 report.
Haringey is one of the boroughs with the highest perceived risk of female genital mutilation (FGM), the report says.
It estimates six per cent of all girls in the borough are born to mothers who underwent FGM themselves.
Haringey’s safeguarding children board currently has a “requires improvement” Ofsted rating.
“We now have tighter protocols, with agencies working together,” said Mr Ennals.
