“School Streets” is a pioneering scheme to transform roads outside schools, so that only pedestrians and cyclists can use them at school start and finish times. These protected streets improve air quality at the school gates, making it much easier and safer to walk and cycle to school.
Haringey Lib Dems brought a motion before Haringey Full Council last month for School Streets or “no-idle zones” to be introduced outside every primary school in the borough as soon as possible.
But Haringey Labour refused. Instead they amended the motion, so that they’re only committed to producing a report on School Streets by next March.
Children in Crouch End should not have to wait for that report. For the health & safety of our kids we must bring in School Streets immediately and take action today.
